This Silverback UV Golf Umbrella really is the ultimate in sun protection. There are many umbrellas on the market with a silver UV protective inner canopy surface – indeed we sell them ourselves. The silver lining of the Silverback is intended to reduce the amount of Ultra Violet getting through the canopy. There is arguably a slight drawback of this approach, however. Some UV can be reflected from the ground and then reflected again and concentrated onto your head and shoulders by the parabolic shape and reflective underside of the umbrella canopy. However, this is all dependent on the ground material. Sand and white concrete really can be very reflective of the sun’s rays.

The parabolic shape of a conventional umbrella can actually have the effect of concentrating the UV rays. To combat this, with the Silverback UV Golf Umbrella we have reversed the conventional UV protective design. With this umbrella, the silver is on the outside and the black on the inside. The silver finish on the exterior filters out much of the UV strength and reflects it away from the canopy. If you remember your physics lessons at school, you’ll know that black absorbs rather than reflects. By having a black interior we are able to stop the sun’s harmful rays from reaching your face.

N.B. This is the Silverback UV Umbrella and not to be confused with a Silverback Gorilla. That would be just plain silly. They are far too heavy to carry for any distance, offer an unspecified level of UV protection, and are seldom welcome in the clubhouse.

What is UPF? Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) indicates how much of the sun’s UV radiation is absorbed.

Rated UPF50+ in accordance with the international standard EN 13758-1:2001. Using a Labsphere Transmittance Analyser, the material was independently tested for UV Protection. The results showed a rating of 400+. It allows only 1/400th of the sun’s UV rays to pass through. This means the fabric will reduce your skin’s UV radiation exposure significantly because only a minuscule 0.25% of the UV rays will get through. This UV umbrella is perfect for those who have sensitive skin or issues with the sun!

The Silverback-Golf UV umbrella is manual open, has a large canopy (some 50″ wide) and it’s approximately 38″ from the black comfort-grip handle to the end of the long steel tip. This UV umbrella features a strong, lightweight fibreglass shaft, frame, and flexible ribs (all in black). It also features a black steel sliding tip cup, helping keep things neat when closed.
